Pearl Jam Streaming “Backspacer”

It’s on their Myspace. I’m going to check it out this weekend. The parts I’ve heard are really solid. Of course we have that whole pesky controversy about Pearl Jam doing the deal with Target… I don’t know, I guess I’m numb at this point. This stuff doesn’t really get me riled up like it used to. If you want to begin foaming at the mouth over it great, but compared to other stuff, it ain’t that big a deal to me.

Someone Had To Approve This

We heard from Courtney Hole earlier this week on the matter. Now Dave Grohl and Krist Novelselic have expressed dismay over Kurt Kobain’s avatar singing Bon Jovi songs on Guitar Hero. Someone had to approve this right? See you in court I guess.

Bonus Coverage. In case you missed it, here’s the sad video:

Bri Blahg… Helping People, That’s What I Do. Music News Round Up: 9/9/09

That’s A Good Question Bri

Can you still be gangsta after going on Oprah? In fairness to Jay Z he is promoting his Friday charity concert. To help Jay maintain his hardness, here’s his mugshot courtesy The Smoking Gun:

Jay Z Wishing He Was At A Grizzly Bear Concert

That was snapped by NYPD in 1999 after Jay Z’s arrest on charges he stabbed a record executive. He probably had it coming right.

The Good News Is, I Now Know Who The Hell You Are

Rapper Max B (full disclosure, I had no idea who this guy was until today. See Max B knew exactly what he was doing) had 75 years dropped on his noggin last week for a robbery gone very bad. Bonus irony: It seems Max B had just extricated himself from a bad contract. Don’t worry about Max though, he’s just signed a new long term deal.

Bri Blahg… 9/2 Music News Round Up: Charlie Watts Quits Eminem’s Small Penis Or Why Punctuation Is Important

Watts Leaves Stones Under Own Power

Can you have The Rolling Stones without Charlie Watts? Spin reports that after 47 years Watts is walking away from the kit. According to the magazine’s website Charlie Drayton from Keith’s solo band The X-Pensive Winos will replace. Drayton’s a good drummer, but perhaps it’s time for The Stones to hang ’em up. I’m sure the band has an excellent pension.

Cripes The Stones were something though weren’t they?

Arctic Monkeys "Humbug"

As I write today I’ve fired up the new Arctic Monkeys record “Humbug” . Taking a quick peek at the Amazon reviews I’d say some are put off by their new, more downcast and heavier direction. I like the first track “My Propeller.” Slower, but still with some good groove. Maybe I dig it more than their old stuff because I’m not very good “On The Dance Floor.”

The LA County Coroner has ruled Michael Jackson’s death a homicide. It seems this doctor was bound and determined to get Jacko to go to sleep one way or another. I know we’d like to believe doctors always have our best interests at heart, and usually they do. My grandmother had a Doctor Feelgood. He kept her in pills even after she overdosed several times. Eventually he went down for doing this to multiple patients.

Bri Blahg… August 13, 2009 Music News Round Up

les_paul_2

By far the biggest story of the day is the death of Les Paul. It is impossible to overstate his importance to modern music. Paul was 94. Just below we posted some stuff we shot last fall for Rolling Stone. Guitar heavyweights like Slash and Billy Gibbons gathered in Cleveland late last year to pay tribute to the man himself.

“It Might Get Loud” is the documentary on a the Yalta like summit featuring Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White. Billboard.com reports that in the film Page played some new material he’s been working on. The trailer is pretty cool. I found it on You Tube, but people had gunked it all up so go here instead.
