Bri Blahg… Tyler In Trouble? Jacko’s Doctor Wants Paid, More Blackroc Leaks. Music News Round Up 11/18/09

Aerosmith Fear For Tyler

As I suspected, band members are very concerned that their (former?) singer is using again. I’ll say this, the Toxic Twin is one passive-aggressive dude.

Jacko’s Alleged Doctor Feelgood Says He May Sue AEG

Doctor Conrad Murray says the producers of Michael Jackson’s ill fated “This Is It” Tour owe him 300 Large. I wonder if he’s on medication for his huge clanging balls.

More Blackroc Tracks Leaked

Pitchfork has the details. If you’re not up on this one…. it’s The Black Keys and a host of hip hop collaborators. The stuff I’ve heard is quite good.

How’s The Record Business Working Out For Ya?

It really isn’t news anymore. The old line record business is a hulking, smoldering wreck. Just ask the geniuses who bought up EMI. Don’t be confused though… Just because lumbering dinosaurs like EMI are sinking into the tar pits, doesn’t mean the music business as a whole is dead. Quite to the contrary, a new, more lucrative model for artists is emerging.

Bonus Coverage. This one goes out to you EMI:

Velvets To Appear At Library

Well it ain’t Max’s Kansas City, but it does sound interesting. Velvet Underground members Lou Reed, Maureen Tucker, and Doug Yule (he replaced John Cale) will be part of a panel discussion on the band and their music at The New York Public Library.

Bonus Coverage. $26 In My Hand:

Jay Z, Will And Jada Pinkett Smith Fund Fela Musical

I’m not much for musical theater myself, but this Broadway production about Nigerian Afro Beat legend Fela Kuti sounds interesting. Some big names financed the project.

“Teacher Don’t Teach Me No Nonsense:”

Faces To Tour Without Rod Stewart

Looks that way anyway. You need Rod Stewart for this don’t you?

New Brian Jonestown Massacre Coming? It Would Seem

You can sample “Who Killed Sgt. Pepper” here. It’s mind bending as you might expect.

Rogue Wave Finish New Record

The album, produced in Oxford, Mississippi with Dennis Herring will be out next March. If it’s as good as their last one I’m in. Good band.

Bri Blahg… Aerosmith Stop Doing Stones, Start Doing Tap… Slash Does Himself With Fergie… Music News Round Up 10/12/09

Up Next, Jazz Odyssey And Puppet Show

If a band hangs around long enough, they’ll do every scene in This Is Spinal Tap. Steven Tyler jumping up to do “Walk This Way” with The Joe Perry Project was Aerosmith’s take on Nigel Tufnel rejoining The Tap after “Sex Farm” reached number 5 in Japan. Unlike the movie though, Perry tells Billboard it doesn’t mean Tyler is back in the band.

Bonus Coverage. It just never gets old:

More Bonus Coverage. The last time for Perry and Tyler? Ok probably not.

Lips Get Naked In New Video

And not just a little. Spin was there.

Bri Blahg… Steven Tyler More Conflicted Than A Teen Girl, Stooges Destroy, Phish To Usher In Several New Years… Music News Round Up 11/11/09

11 11 2009

by Brian Phillips (@BrianBlahg)

Before We Get Into The Serious Stuff…

Did you know there was a band called Metallagher? Yeah me neither. They smash watermelons and play Metallica covers. How did I miss this?

Perry Takes To Twitter, Says Aerosmith Will Continue

They’re replacing Steven Tyler he says. Good luck with that. Perhaps they need to have a band meeting because Joey Kramer seems to be out of the loop.

Bonus Coverage. Then again, over on the Velvet Rope they’re saying Tyler appeared at last night’s Joe Perry Project show:

I may just have to shut up about all this. I feel like I’m being played. Wouldn’t be the first time.

Stooges Play First Show With Williamson

Retired computer engineer James Williamson is once again, after 30 some odd years, the guitar player in The Stooges. The band played their first gig over the weekend in Brazil.

Bonus Coverage. “Search And Destroy!” And don’t bother complaining about Iggy having his shirt off, he doesn’t give a shit what you think.

My Morning Jacket On American Dad

My Morning Jacket On "American Dad"

I’ve never gotten into the show for whatever reason though I’m a big Family Guy…. guy. Perhaps I’ll have to check it out.

Bri Blahg… Them Crooked Vultures Streaming, Wale Dropping, American Idiots Dancing… Music News Round Up 10/10/09

Them Crooked Vultures Streaming Album

The debut drops one week from today, but the tracks have been individually placed on You Tube.

Bonus Coverage. Track 2 “Mind Eraser, No Chaser”:

Sure Beats Cats And Phantom

Green Day’s “American Idiot” is coming to Broadway.

Bonus Coverage. I guess I’m just a lousy Philistine because this just looks dumb to me:

In Related News, Coming Soon, The Kinks Choral Collection

And you can’t improve “Waterloo Sunset” with a choir either. It’s perfect the way it is. The good news is, some of the Kinks have been kicking around the studio with Ray Davies, but not brother Dave as yet.

Also Out Today

Wale and Dashboard Confessional highlight a slow release day. I predict the Wale record will do quite well.

Lil Wayne’s Bad Fall Keeps Getting Worse

Let’s see… he’s going to prison, can’t finish his record, and, over his objections Tha Carter documentary is coming.

Perry Confirms, Tyler Quits Aerosmith

Photobucket

Steven Tyler? Yeesh....

In reading the article two things are becoming clear. 1. Tyler has fallen off the wagon big time. 2. Joe Perry is extremely passive-aggressive.

Bonus Coverage. Here’s what happens when you hire the wrong singer. Exhibit A. Gary Cherone fronts Van Halen for about an hour:

Bri Blahg… Aerosmith Without Tyler? Wicker Furniture And One World Government. Music News Round Up 11/6/09

6 11 2009

by Brian Phillips (@BrianBlahg)

Beatles Win Round One, Site Takes Down 25 Cent Downloads

A judge issued the injunction yesterday. Blue Beat has other problems brewing I imagine. They claim ownership for all the thousands of songs they’re selling.

Bonus Coverage. The fine print:

More Bonus Coverage. You can’t buy the songs anymore, but a couple of minutes ago I listened to “Get Back:”

And Now To Stoke Your Paranoia

There are those who are convinced we are headed for a one world government. That’s a very bad idea. Think of it this way: If there were only one place to buy wicker furniture, that wicker furniture would be very expensive and of poor quality. One world government would be like a wicker chair with a giant hole in it. The giant hole in which your ass is stuck, the pointy wicker ends shoved in to your skin. The above is why CNN never calls to have me on Anderson Cooper. I don’t make any damn sense. Anyway some very powerful nations are working in secret on a treaty that would throw file sharers off the net FOREVER!!!!!! It’s worse than that even if the article is to be believed.

Jay Z Plots Early ’10 Tour

It’s all here.

WTF??????????????????

Spin is speculating that Aerosmith are pondering a future without Steven Tyler. That’s like Jack Daniels pondering a future without whiskey. Dudes, if Steven Tyler is out, you need to hang it up. According to this thread on Velvet Rope, it has to do with Tyler being very much off the wagon.

Bonus Coverage. Cripes Aerosmith has survived everything to, for the most part, just be the five of them. The only time they weren’t was the early 80’s when guitar players Joe Perry and Brad Whitford both quit. The result was this. Not a bad song I suppose, but the album as a whole was a huge stiff:

Arctic Monkeys "Humbug"

As I write today I’ve fired up the new Arctic Monkeys record “Humbug” . Taking a quick peek at the Amazon reviews I’d say some are put off by their new, more downcast and heavier direction. I like the first track “My Propeller.” Slower, but still with some good groove. Maybe I dig it more than their old stuff because I’m not very good “On The Dance Floor.”

The LA County Coroner has ruled Michael Jackson’s death a homicide. It seems this doctor was bound and determined to get Jacko to go to sleep one way or another. I know we’d like to believe doctors always have our best interests at heart, and usually they do. My grandmother had a Doctor Feelgood. He kept her in pills even after she overdosed several times. Eventually he went down for doing this to multiple patients.
