AEG President Says Jacko Film Vindication

Come on man I surely don’t believe you killed Michael Jackson. Signing him for 50 shows? That’s just putting the gun to your own head and pulling the trigger. “This Is It,” the Zapruder Film of concert flicks got a press roll out in New York Thursday.

Just In Time For Jackson Film… Jacko’s Nazi Fixation

Michael Jackson told a Rabbi he could heal Hitler. It’s all in a new book taken from 30 hours of bizarre ramblings The King Of Pop had with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach. I don’t need to read the stinking book now, there’s nothing in there that can top that.

Austin City Limits Set For Huge 35th Season

When we were in Austin for South By Southwest last March we walked by Austin City Limits’ new digs a few times. It looked quite impressive. Equally compelling is their upcoming season. Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Them Crooked Vultures, Elvis Costello, and Willie Nelson head up the list.

Bonus Coverage. Rolling Stone has a profile on Merle Haggard I’m digging this week on my trips to the can. (I have to hide it because Megan Fox is on the cover and I don’t want folks getting the wrong idea.) He’s a true living giant of music. Here’s Merle several years ago on Austin City Limits:

More Bonus Coverage. Rolling Stone recently ran a stunning piece on former Cream drummer Ginger Baker. The Independent in Ireland ran the story as well, but there’s is a more fleshed out version. I had no idea Baker was such a loon…. A genius that’s true, but cream crackers nuts too. I highly recommend you read it.

Pearl Jam Launch Two-Night Stand In Seattle

Spin was there at sold out Key Arena in Seattle.

Bonus Coverage. You know who else used to sell out Key Arena? The Seattle Super Sonics that’s who. It’s the NBA squad I grew up with. Who can forget Downtown Freddie Brown, Slick Watts, Xavier McDaniel and of course “The Baby Maker” Shawn Kemp. You suck NBA…..

Would You Play A Gay Character? Lars? Yes. Kirk? Sort of. James? No not so much.

For some reason Jim Breuer asked Metallica if they’d play a gay guy in a movie. Jim Breuer can get away with questions like this because he always looks like the dude he played in Half Baked.

How cute is the new Norah Jones album cover??

10 09 2009

By Jill Menze (@jillmenze)

Norah Jones' 'The Fall' album cover

Norah Jones' 'The Fall'

Look at that dawg! Adorable! As much as I respect Norah Jones’ career, I can’t say the Grammy Award-winning, smokey-voiced songstress is at the top of my list of artists I regularly follow up on, but this album cover (shot by the wonderful Autumn De Wilde) caught my attention immediately this morning (because for those unaware, I really like dogs).

So with that — let’s talk a bit about her forthcoming fourth studio album, “The Fall,” due Nov. 17 via Blue Note. The effort finds Jones collaborating with the likes of Ryan Adams, Okkervil River’s Will Sheff and Jesse Harris, who is probably best known for penning “Don’t Know Why” on Jones’ 2002 debut, “Come Away With Me.” According to the press release, the set also takes Jones in a new direction, “experimenting with different sounds” alongside producer and engineer Jacquire King, who has worked with Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse and Tom Waits, among others.

But back to the dog — That thing’s the size of a bear. Think she’ll bring him/her out on tour?

Bri Blahg… 9/3 News Round Up: Only The Stones Remain

3 09 2009

by Brian Phillips (@BrianBlahg)

Before I Crap On Everything, Here’s Something Good

I don’t mean to be such downer, I’ve just been involved in the music business for way to stinking long I think. To show that I’m not incapable of finding something to say nice things about, here’s St. Vincent on Jimmy Kimmel last night. This is a wonderfully disorienting song for a late night talk show don’t you think?

Bonus! Our SXSW Confab With St. Vincent

Bri Blahg… 9/2 Music News Round Up: Charlie Watts Quits Eminem’s Small Penis Or Why Punctuation Is Important

Watts Leaves Stones Under Own Power

Can you have The Rolling Stones without Charlie Watts? Spin reports that after 47 years Watts is walking away from the kit. According to the magazine’s website Charlie Drayton from Keith’s solo band The X-Pensive Winos will replace. Drayton’s a good drummer, but perhaps it’s time for The Stones to hang ’em up. I’m sure the band has an excellent pension.

Cripes The Stones were something though weren’t they?

You knew this was coming. Live Leak has the proof! Michael Jackson…. ALIVE:

Spin is reporting on the return of Wolfmother… Now with all new, not the old guys. Judging from the photos in the article, Andrew Stockdale hired his hair dopplegangers. Bonus! One of the new Wolfmothers looks like a Geico Caveman:
