Slayer/Megadeth Announce “American Carnage”

The winter tour features blocks of $10.00 tickets to reflect what they call 1991 prices. Let that roll around in your skull for a moment. Yes concert tickets have gone up that much. Anyway kudos to them.

Bonus Coverage. Megadeth’s disturbing “99 Ways To Die.” Keep out of reach of children:

PIL’s Future? It’s Up To You.

John Lydon says Public Image Limited will record if their comeback tour is successful. Sounds fair.

The Best? Really? Seriously?

NME says The Strokes debut album is the best of the waning decade. It’s good, but the best?

Bonus Coverage. Let me just pull a random record out of my ass that I think is better:

Well That Didn’t Take Long, EMI Sues Blue Beat Over Beatles Downloads

Photobucket

Beatles For Sale... "Abbey Road" on Blue Beat

Yesterday we reported on a site called Blue Beat selling Beatles downloads for a quarter. My spidey sense was heightened. How could they legally sell Beatles songs when all involved parties couldn’t even come to an agreement with Apple. Today EMI sued Blue Beat, but the songs remain available as I write. In fact Blue Beat claims ownership of the recordings they’re selling. How? Read on and shake your head.

Springsteen Announces More Album Shows

“Wild, Willing”/”River” shows coming.

No Doubt Sues Video Game Maker

Activision's Band Hero

It’s over their Avatars in Activision’s forthcoming “Band Hero.”

Kele Okereke is cooking it up while the band is on hiatus.

Devo Slam Through “Men” In LA

Damn… I wish I was there.

Tom Waits On Twitter

In Low Side Of The Road Waits didn’t seem to have much use for computers. That said, Waits has just opened a Twitter account.

Decemberist Readies Children’s Book

I think my girls would like “The Demise Of Whitney Rackam.”

Bri Blahg… Anka Dances On Jacko’s Grave… Music News Round Up Tuesday October 13, 2009

13 10 2009

by Brian Phillips (@BrianBlahg)

Jacko “This Is It,” Not New, Not Jacko’s, Not Good

Crooner Paul Anka charges that Michael Jackson stole This Is It from him. Further, as you’ll read in the linked TMZ article, Anka gave the tune to Saffire in 1990. There must have been some merit to his accusation because 24 hours after its release the estate cut Anka in for half. It was either that or kill him too. (Editor’s note: Bri’s mind is a weedy, abandoned back yard of rusty, hulking, moldering conspiracy theories. Don’t get him started. Nod and smile. Walk away slowly.)

Bonus Coverage. Did you know Paul Anka wrote “My Way?” Damn how much is that song worth? It’s like owning the patent for air. I’m sure Anka wasn’t too fond of this cover:

Flaming Lips’ Plan For The Economy. The Flaming Lips Store

It’s only going to be open for a day this week out in LA. “Embryonic” drops today.

Bonus Coverage. Sample away thanks to LaLa:

Bri Blahg: Kanye On The Cross. Music News Round Up 9/15/09

15 09 2009

Jay Leno Gives Kanye West Time Out

The Jay Leno Show premiered last night on NBC and, yay for Leno, he gets his mitts on Kanye West before he can be nailed to the cross on Oprah. I don’t know about you, but this sort of celebrity sin and contrition hoo haw got old a long time ago. Dull, dull, dull. If I’m Taylor Swift I just ignore him. Kanye is such a diva that it’s the one thing he won’t be able to take.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Bonus Coverage: President calls Kanye a jackass! I think history has been made here people. Not since Warren G. Harding referred to Al Jolson as a “scaliwag” has a sitting president come out so strongly against one of his day’s biggest celebrities. Let’s see if all those mouth foaming “birthers” are going to welcome Kanye West into the movement.

Birther: “He called you a jackass and he was born in Kenya! Join us!”

More Bonus Coverage: Holy shit I can’t take much more. The View  snapped up Taylor Swift this morning.

Kayne’s biggest concern may no longer be the President’s opinion, but rather 10,000 pitchfork wielding housefraus showing up at his crib. Damn!

Bri Blahg… Helping People, That’s What I Do. Music News Round Up: 9/9/09

9 09 2009

That’s A Good Question Bri

Can you still be gangsta after going on Oprah? In fairness to Jay Z he is promoting his Friday charity concert. To help Jay maintain his hardness, here’s his mugshot courtesy The Smoking Gun:

Jay Z Wishing He Was At A Grizzly Bear Concert

That was snapped by NYPD in 1999 after Jay Z’s arrest on charges he stabbed a record executive. He probably had it coming right.

The Good News Is, I Now Know Who The Hell You Are

Rapper Max B (full disclosure, I had no idea who this guy was until today. See Max B knew exactly what he was doing) had 75 years dropped on his noggin last week for a robbery gone very bad. Bonus irony: It seems Max B had just extricated himself from a bad contract. Don’t worry about Max though, he’s just signed a new long term deal.
