Beatles Win Round One, Site Takes Down 25 Cent Downloads

A judge issued the injunction yesterday. Blue Beat has other problems brewing I imagine. They claim ownership for all the thousands of songs they’re selling.

Bonus Coverage. The fine print:

More Bonus Coverage. You can’t buy the songs anymore, but a couple of minutes ago I listened to “Get Back:”

And Now To Stoke Your Paranoia

There are those who are convinced we are headed for a one world government. That’s a very bad idea. Think of it this way: If there were only one place to buy wicker furniture, that wicker furniture would be very expensive and of poor quality. One world government would be like a wicker chair with a giant hole in it. The giant hole in which your ass is stuck, the pointy wicker ends shoved in to your skin. The above is why CNN never calls to have me on Anderson Cooper. I don’t make any damn sense. Anyway some very powerful nations are working in secret on a treaty that would throw file sharers off the net FOREVER!!!!!! It’s worse than that even if the article is to be believed.

Jay Z Plots Early ’10 Tour

It’s all here.

WTF??????????????????

Spin is speculating that Aerosmith are pondering a future without Steven Tyler. That’s like Jack Daniels pondering a future without whiskey. Dudes, if Steven Tyler is out, you need to hang it up. According to this thread on Velvet Rope, it has to do with Tyler being very much off the wagon.

Bonus Coverage. Cripes Aerosmith has survived everything to, for the most part, just be the five of them. The only time they weren’t was the early 80’s when guitar players Joe Perry and Brad Whitford both quit. The result was this. Not a bad song I suppose, but the album as a whole was a huge stiff:

U2 Free Show Marks Berlin Wall Fall

20 years already eh. There’s a whole generation of self centered, poorly educated children that have no clue what this is all about. Put down your cell phone and get yourself up to speed.

Rock Band Who Coming?

I predict many broken video game “guitars” and bloody hands as dorks like me attempt to imitate our hero Pete Townshend.

Bonus Coverage. Damn I love The Who:

Kanye West briefly posted a disturbing Spike Jonze directed short yesterday, and then took it down.

Bonus Coverage. Obviously we don’t have the video, so instead enjoy this instructional film:

Who Says You Tube Doesn’t Have Any Money

This weekend You Tube will stream U2’s Rose Bowl show free. Who wants to take bets on their server crashing.

Pearl Jam Bootleg App

Bootleg is a strong word since the band has teamed with Verizon for the new Blackberry do-hicky. You’ll get three live tracks from every remaining show on the tour.

Dude Palo Alto ’73

You ever heard of Wolfgang’s Vault? Nah me neither. If you’re a hardcore Dead Head you probably have. With legal issues straightened out a trove of good (Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Aretha Franklin, Lou Reed, Ramones, etc) bad (Chicago, Hall and Oates) and Weird (Twisted Sister?) are hitting the virtual market.

Bonus Coverage. I’ll be honest, up until a couple of years ago I wasn’t much for The Dead. Then I saw Phil Lesh at Bonnaroo (no there were no drugs) and something clicked. Am I hardcore? No I wouldn’t say that, but I’m digging the stuff I bought for the Ipod… The Skull and Bones record etc. One of my favorites is their take on Merle Haggard’s “Mama Tried”:

Someone Had To Approve This

We heard from Courtney Hole earlier this week on the matter. Now Dave Grohl and Krist Novelselic have expressed dismay over Kurt Kobain’s avatar singing Bon Jovi songs on Guitar Hero. Someone had to approve this right? See you in court I guess.

Bonus Coverage. In case you missed it, here’s the sad video:

Bri Blahg… 9/4/09 Music News: Man Retires From Silicon Valley, Joins Stooges

NIN Hollywood Show Features Gary Numan

Argh! Nine Inch Nails keep pulling up inspired guests on their farewell tour and I’m not there to dig it. Wednesday in LA it was industrial music pioneer and ace pilot Gary Numan. “Cars” was an obvious choice. Even better was “Metal.” Numan I fear is largely forgotten, but for Reznor he is a huge influence. Check out Numan’s “Metal”:

So I Was Sitting In The Parking Lot Of A Dentist Office

That’s what Stooges guitar player James Williamson told Rolling Stone of Iggy’s invitation to rejoin the band. He was getting ready to see the dentist when Iggy rang him up.

Williamson left music in 1974, and eventually ended up in a shitty little no future business called personal computers. It almost sounds like a movie:

“I was about to take an early retirement from my job in Silicon Valley, so I figured ‘What the hell, let’s do it.”

Williamson replaces Ron Asheton who died of a heart attack this past winter. James was in the band for their 1973 smokin’ shoot out “Raw Power.”

Rolling Stone leads with news Them Crooked Vultures have been added to the Austin City Limits bill. If you haven’t been paying attention, that’s the supergroup featuring Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Dave Grohl, and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.

Sublime are going the Alice In Chains route, replacing a long dead singer and hitting the road. First up is The Smoke Out Festival hosted by Cheech And Chong. Your mileage may vary on Sublime playing a drug themed festival when their singer died from a drug overdose. Cheech and Chong got a lot of mileage out of those stoner movies they made back in the 70’s and 80’s. I love the cheesy announcer guy on this trailer:
