Bri Blahg: Music News Round Up Monday August 24, 2009

24 08 2009

Our own Jill Menze fought her way into the now infamous Girl Talk show over the weekend in Brooklyn. Brooklyn Vegan were there as well. I wish people still went this nuts for people who play instruments. That would be cool.

Cameron Crowe’s new clip for Pearl Jam’s “The Fixer” is out. The bits and pieces of the album I’ve heard are encouraging.

Kiss have announced their 35th anniversary tour. They’ve actually been together longer than that, but why quibble. And now the funniest Kiss video ever “World Without Heroes” from their concept album Music From The Elder. Bri Blahg… Music News Round Up Thursday August 20

As I write I’ve fired up Jay Reatard’s “Watch Me Fall” album. It’s not bad. The faux British accent is a little annoying, but that’s just nitpicking. He’s been listening to a lot of Wire I believe. Well, folks, it’s a full three days after Rothbury’s triumphant close and I’m still recovering.

My attempt to drive home after Bob Dylan’s set ended Sunday night was a bust — with my eyelids as heavy as The Glitch Mob’s basslines, I pulled to the side of the highway somewhere in Michigan around 2 a.m. and fell uncomfortably asleep in the driver’s seat. Lucky me, there weren’t any murderous hitchhikers prowling.

Needless to say, I was a bit late for work on Monday morning. My editor is very forgiving.

After arriving back in the real world, having spent four days doing solely fantastic things — camping, experiencing live music, being with friends, drinking almost-cold beer and whiskey — can seem utterly surreal. As is the case with any festival, half of me feels like Rothbury didn’t really happen.
