Slayer/Megadeth Announce “American Carnage”

The winter tour features blocks of $10.00 tickets to reflect what they call 1991 prices. Let that roll around in your skull for a moment. Yes concert tickets have gone up that much. Anyway kudos to them.

Bonus Coverage. Megadeth’s disturbing “99 Ways To Die.” Keep out of reach of children:

PIL’s Future? It’s Up To You.

John Lydon says Public Image Limited will record if their comeback tour is successful. Sounds fair.

The Best? Really? Seriously?

NME says The Strokes debut album is the best of the waning decade. It’s good, but the best?

Bonus Coverage. Let me just pull a random record out of my ass that I think is better:

Bri Blahg… Anka Dances On Jacko’s Grave… Music News Round Up Tuesday October 13, 2009

13 10 2009

by Brian Phillips (@BrianBlahg)

Jacko “This Is It,” Not New, Not Jacko’s, Not Good

Crooner Paul Anka charges that Michael Jackson stole This Is It from him. Further, as you’ll read in the linked TMZ article, Anka gave the tune to Saffire in 1990. There must have been some merit to his accusation because 24 hours after its release the estate cut Anka in for half. It was either that or kill him too. (Editor’s note: Bri’s mind is a weedy, abandoned back yard of rusty, hulking, moldering conspiracy theories. Don’t get him started. Nod and smile. Walk away slowly.)

Bonus Coverage. Did you know Paul Anka wrote “My Way?” Damn how much is that song worth? It’s like owning the patent for air. I’m sure Anka wasn’t too fond of this cover:

Flaming Lips’ Plan For The Economy. The Flaming Lips Store

It’s only going to be open for a day this week out in LA. “Embryonic” drops today.

Bonus Coverage. Sample away thanks to LaLa:

Bri Blahg: Music News Round Up For Tuesday September 1, 2009

1 09 2009

by Brian Phillips (@BrianBlahg)

Rolling Stone leads with news Them Crooked Vultures have been added to the Austin City Limits bill. If you haven’t been paying attention, that’s the supergroup featuring Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Dave Grohl, and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.

Sublime are going the Alice In Chains route, replacing a long dead singer and hitting the road. First up is The Smoke Out Festival hosted by Cheech And Chong. Your mileage may vary on Sublime playing a drug themed festival when their singer died from a drug overdose. Cheech and Chong got a lot of mileage out of those stoner movies they made back in the 70’s and 80’s. I love the cheesy announcer guy on this trailer:

Singer Julian Casablancas is keeping up with fellow Stokes mates Albert Hammond, Jr., Fabrizio Moretti, & Nicolai Fraiture and releasing a solo album (due out this Fall). Phrazes of the Young is eight songs that Julian recorded with Jason Leder (Elvis Costello, Jenny Lewis) this past year. He plans to tour in support of the record this Fall. Here’s a kick ass video preview of the album…
