Lizard King Poses For Fan Picture…. In 1997

Jim Morrison's 1997 Encore

I know your mileage will vary on this one…. I’m a natural born skeptic myself…. That said it’s pretty creepy.

Bonus Coverage:

Flaming Lips To Do Dark Side With Henry Rollins

The follow up to The Flaming Lips new and very Floydish “Embryonic” is ambitious to say the least. The band is planning to cover Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side Of The Moon” with guests Henry Rollins and Peaches.

Mullets In Residence

I about gagged on my Pizza Flavored Combos at this one. Bon Jovi has been declared NBC’s Artists In Residence. They’ll appear exclusively on NBC programming in November. Here’s an idea, why don’t you have ICE-T give Richie Sambora an extra-legal beat down on Special Victims Unit.

Bonus Coverage. This wouldn’t have anything to do with Bon Jovi’s label and NBC being owned by the same corporate overlord would it? Nah….

Thievery Corporation To Get Right Back In Studio

They say a new album will drop next year. The best part of the article is Thievery opening for Paul McCartney. Turns out Sir Paul is a huge fan.

Bonus Coverage. Have you heard Paul’s side project The Fireman? After you do you’ll understand better why he digs things like Thievery Corporation. I don’t know why he doesn’t talk about the project much, it’s actually quite good:

“Big Man” Puts Down Boss Memories

Bruce digs it so I’m sure there isn’t anything tawdry in there. The “tall tale” section is a great idea. After 40 years in a band I’m sure there are things you remember that may or may not be true. It doesn’t make them bad stories though.

N.E.R.D. and Santigold Team Up

I’ll try to ignore that it’s for The CW’s turgid 90120.

I’m Going To Spend Part Of The Weekend With Natasha Kahn

Pitchfork has a Making Of Two Suns documentary up… but only for a week:

Bonus Coverage. I’m a married man, but I have to say doing this interview for Billboard left me a wee bit smitten:

And here’s the song we were talking about:

Hey Jack, Take A Vacation Dude

Apparently The Dead Weather are well into laying down album number two.

Bonus Coverage. Here’s my review of the first Dead Weather record. The band has potential, but the debut seemed a bit unfocused to me.

Hello Cleveland

Every artist’s nightmare, getting the city wrong. Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode did it one better… screwing up which country he was in.

He Will Make No Tool Album Before It’s Time

Grape stomping Tool front man Maynard James Keenan has another Puscifer release coming. Yawn.

Bonus Coverage. Time for a visually disturbing Tool video I think:

Dead Man’s Bones. You Want To Hate Them

Bands with actors…. Hmmm… Keanu’s Dogstar? Blech… Johnny Depp’s P (with Gibby from The Butthole Surfers)? Not bad. Ryan Gosling and Zach Shield’s Dead Man’s Bones played this week in Boston and Spin was there. The project is fairly interesting. If I had to describe the sound I’d say “Methodist Children’s Choir Gothic Surfgaze.”

Bonus Coverage. Surely you can coin a better description than I:

Yes It Can Happen To Men

Former Kiss drummer Peter Criss survived breast cancer. This is no laughing matter. It’s rare obviously for men, but it does happen.

Vice Wish You A Brutal Halloween

I gotta get to New York for this! Jesus Lizard and Bad Brains for free!

Bonus Coverage. Damn:
