Bri Blahg…. Cheap Track

This may be one of the world's most obscure 8-tracks.

The Toronto Globe & Mail has a feature on Cheap Trick releasing their new album in four formats; MP3, CD, LP and….. 8-Track? Yes kids ask your folks about 8-Track tapes. These clunky plastic anachronisms divided an album up into four “programs.” The charming thing was, songs were interrupted on the tape as the device switched between those programs. Let’s say Jimmy Page is about to launch into his timeless “Stairway To Heaven” solo. You’re seriously grooving with your giant Radio Shack Tandy brand headphones whilst reclined on your beanbag chair when suddenly: “click…. Hisssssssssssssssss… click…” and the song would continue. I know right.

Most unbelievable the band was actually able to find a plant in Dallas to make the damn things. Now how about finding an 8 Track player…. Up until not that many years ago Radio Shack carried at least one model. You’ll have to haunt Ebay to find one now.
