While Mark Olson is quick to downplay talk of his band The Jayhawks inventing alt country, there’s no denying their importance to the genre. With the release of “The Jayhawks Anthology” on Tuesday July 7 comes news that the band has reunited in their classic configuration.

The 20 song compilation is a good place to start I suppose, better yet just round up all their albums starting with 1992’s “Hollywood Town Hall.” There’s a strong sense of song craft on all those Jayhawks records… and a sweetness too.

For now the band has but one date scheduled. It’s an appearance at The Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis. Expect more activity soon. Boy they’d be perfect at Bonnaroo next year right! Just saying.
